This fall, enjoy bilingual books for children in English and Spanish read by beloved storytellers from our community. We invite you to participate, collaborate, and learn about Latin America with award-winning books. The recommended age is 3-5 years old.
Join the Consulate of Mexico in New Orleans for an evening filled with music, flavors, and traditions of Mexico. In collaboration with the New Orleans Jazz Museum, they are hosting "El Grito" 2024, where you can Experience live mariachi music, Mexican cuisine from local food vendors, and Participate in "El Grito" the traditional call for independence, and raise a glass with us as we honor this significant moment in our history.

Guatemala se encuentra entre los países más vulnerables al cambio climático, con un tercio de su población dependiendo directamente de los recursos naturales para su subsistencia. Esta vulnerabilidad climática afecta de manera desproporcionada a las tierras de los pueblos indígenas, quienes protegen una significativa diversidad biológica y cultural, pero enfrentan la pobreza y la falta de acceso a servicios básicos.
Dr. Stephanie Colin, Lead Crimmigration Advocate and Limited English Proficiency Coordinator with the Orleans Public Defenders Office, will do a talk about her work with Central American migrants in the LAST 3010-01 class. Dr. Colin works directly with young migrants that fled gang violence in Central America and now face criminal charges here in Orleans Parish and/or the rest of Louisiana. The talk is open to the public.
Bilingual and Spanish-speaking families engage in this recurring free evening of activities for the whole family. Each date will feature a unique activity or game, snacks, and book giveaway door prizes. In addition, Americas Award books will be featured. The Americas Award celebrates YA and Children’s literature that portrays Latin America, The Caribbean, and Latinx culture in the United States with an authentic lens. This program is planned for families with children ages 6 - 12 and their siblings.
