Tulane Brazilian Jazz Ensemble

This ensemble, comprised of Tulane students, focuses on the intersections of Brazilian music with jazz. Bossa nova, samba jazz, baião, choro, ijexá, and many other traditional Brazilian rhythms integrate the repertoire. The ensemble performs music from Tom Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal, João Bosco, João Donato, Gilberto Gil, and Pixinguinha. Geovane Santos, LAST PhD Candidate, is the director of the Tulane Brazilian Jazz Ensemble.

Music at Midday – Geovane Santos: Ballet and Beyond

Geovane Santos, an Afro-Brazilian guitarist, vocalist, composer, and educator from Belo Horizonte, brings his rich cultural heritage to New Orleans' vibrant music scene. Recognized as the city's "best Brazilian jazz guitarist" by OffBeat Magazine, he is the founder of New Orleans Brasil Day and a dedicated scholar exploring race, transculturation, and cultural appropriation in music. 

Book Presentation & Conversation: "El dios del silencio"

El dios del silencio (2023) is a short story collection written by Fernando Rivera. Since he won the Peruvian National Award for Short Stories El cuento de las mil palabras in 1992, he has published the short story collection Barcos de arena (1994) and the novels Invencible como tu figura (2004) and Ustedes que jamás vieron mi Muerte (2016). His short stories have been published in anthologies in Peru and Spain.
