Join the Department of History and the Stone Center for Latin American Studies for an author talk with Sarah Fouts on her book “Rebuilding New Orleans: Immigrant Laborers and Street Food Vendors in the Post-Katrina Era” (UNC Press, 2025). The book explores how Central American and Mexican communities that settled in New Orleans after Katrina—many of whom opened restaurants—shaped the city culturally and politically in the aftermath of the storm. Dr. Fouts is an Assistant Professor in American Studies and the Director of the Public Humanities Minor Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). A Tulane alumna, Dr. Fouts earned her PhD in Latin American Studies in 2017.
