The Pebbles Center coordinated the visit of author Sandra Cisneros this week! Cisneros visited the International School of Louisiana and met with the eighth grade class. She gave a reading, and answered questions in Spanish!

The Stone Center for Latin American Studies and Newcomb Institute at Tulane University. Also, we were so delighted to be able to purchase a classroom set of signed copies of her latest translation for the ISL library.

In the evening, the Stone Center hosted Cisneros in the Lavin Bernick Center for Student Life on campus. Cisneros presented selections from her recent publications, The House on Mango Street/La casa en Mango Street (translation; 2022) and Martita, I Remember You/Martita te recuerdo (2021).

The readings wer followed by a conversation exploring topics of identity, race and gender. Associate Director of the Cuban and Caribbean Studies Institute, Professor I. Carolina Caballero, moderated this event. This event was part of an ongoing series of public engagement programs with Latinx writers exploring Latin America, race, and identity.

Cisneros' visit was sponsored by the Stone Center for Latin American Studies and the Newcomb Institute. Books will be sold on site by Tubby & Coo's  Mid City Bookshop.
