The Personal is Pictorial: Diego Rivera’s Construction and Navigation of Cubist Spaces in 1915 Paris

Online

Happening today, April 4th, The Personal is Pictorial: Diego Rivera’s Construction and Navigation of Cubist Spaces in 1915 Paris event.

Megan R. Flattley, PhD Candidate in Art History/Latin American Studies, will discuss the early cubist work of Mexican artist Diego Rivera, and the role that he played as a “marginal cosmopolitan” in the Parisian avant-garde scene. Rivera’s inclusion of Mexican iconography and social subject matter in his cubist still lifes, as well as his refusal to embrace the notion of the cubist picture as an autonomous realm, resulted in a unique and understudied cubism.
