Biography
Patricia Lagarde is a scholar in Art History and Latin American Studies, holding a doctorate from Tulane University. Dr. Lagarde has held curatorial and administrative roles at renowned institutions, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New Orleans Museum of Art, and the Walters Art Museum. Most recently, she co-curated Latin American Art / Arte Latinoamericano, the first permanent installation of Latin American art in the history of the Walters Art Museum. She currently serves as the Curator of Collections at the Middle American Research Institute.
Dr. Lagarde's ongoing book project, “(Un)tethered: The Lives of Chavín’s Tenon Heads,” examines the tenon heads of Chavín, tracing their significance across different historical periods and exploring the role of memory in the accumulation and interpretation of material culture. This project is an extension of her dissertation, which she defended with distinction in 2022. Her research has received support from prestigious grants and fellowships, including those from the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Program, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS).
