Children's and Young Adult Literature

The Latin American Resource Center (LARC) promotes Latin American children’s and young adult literature at both the local and national level. We offer a number of community based events each year which highlight the diversity of Latin America and the Latinx community for children and their families.

The Pebbles Collection

The Pebbles Collection hosts the Read Across the Americas series every summer, check out the calendar on the New Orleans Public Library calendar.

Américas Book Award

The Stone Center coordinates the annual CLASP Américas Award. Learn more about this award here. In 2012, Tulane’s Stone Center for Latin American Studies took over the coordination of the national Latin American children’s literature award, the Américas Award sponsored by the Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs in partnership with Vanderbilt University’s Center for Latin American & Caribbean and Latinx Studies. Global Read Webinar Series 

This online spring series focuses on the word of award-winning authors and illustrators to provide recommended reading that spans the world. A collaboration of the Américas Award with the South Asia Book Award, the Middle East Book Award, the Children's Africana Book Award, and the Freeman Book Award, the series promotes reading across Latin America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Join us THIS SPRING!


Check out one of our special online Story Times featuring the long lost work of Ludwig Bemelmans, author of the famous book series, "Madeline." The book, "Quito Express" shares the story of Pedro who explores Ecuador by train. The recording is produced by award-winning author and former faculty of the Stone Center for Latin American Studies, Gabriela Alemán.
