Tulane senior Bryna Loranger graduates as a double major in Spanish and International Development with a minor in Latin American Studies in May 2020. Throughout her time as an undergraduate, she has been able to interlink her areas of study through international travel along with her time in New Orleans. While studying abroad in Havana, Cuba in Fall 2018, she conducted field research and presented at a University of Havana research conference on sustainable urban farming in the greater Havana area. She also traveled to East Africa through Navy ROTC and Project Global Officer to learn Swahili over the course of two summers. Through these experiences, she’s become fascinated by the connections between East Africa, Latin America, and New Orleans. Bryna has been awarded a commission in the US Navy as an Ensign and looks forward to serving as a surface warfare officer in Rota, Spain after graduation.
