Biography

Juliette Maasland is originally from the Netherlands but has spent most of her life moving between Sweden, Russia, and Miami. Juliette holds a Master's Degree in Latin American Studies from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Science in Governance, Economics, and Development from Leiden University College. Her master's thesis—guided by Dr. Silva, Dr. Arce, and Dr. Leguizamon—focused on the corporate-community relationships between the Chilean lithium mining company and local Indigenous communities in terms of conflict and development. As a Mellon Foundation Community Engagement fellow, Juliette partnered with the Panamanian environmental education organization called Geoversity. As she currently pursues her PhD in Latin American Studies, Juliette hopes to explore the sustainability of the social, economic, and political lives of local Indigenous communities at the frontier of the Green Energy Transition.
