Op-Ed Writing for Policy and International Affairs Workshop offered by LAST graduate Adam Ratzlaff is open to All LAST Undergrad and Graduate Students.

For those interested in working in the policy space, one of the most important skills that they can learn is how to distill the complex information learned through research into a condensed format that is more likely to be read by both policymakers and the general public. One common format for this is through op-eds that aim to shift the policy discussion. However, navigating the op-ed writing and pitch process can be daunting. In this op-ed writing workshop students will learn about the purpose and fundamentals of op-ed writing. Selected students will be invited to work one-on-one with the presenter to go from preliminary draft through the editorial and pitch process to publish them in a reputable foreign affairs or policy site.

Adam Ratzlaff is a specialist and consultant in Inter-American affairs as well as a PhD candidate in International Relations at Florida International University. He is also a member of Diplomatic Courier’s World in 2050 Brain Trust. Ratzlaff has consulted for the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the U.S. Department of State and worked with various organizations on analyzing Inter-American affairs. Ratzlaff is the author or co-author of over 100 public-facing analyses that have been featured in The Times-Picayune, Global Americans, The National Interest, Inkstick, Responsible Statecraft, and West Point’s Modern War Institute, among others.
