News from the New Orleans music scene today—come and join Tulane's Geovane Santos (gpstheguitarist on Facebook and Twitter) at Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro.
Santos will be sharing scholarly tidbits alongside some classic jazz melodies to help contextualize bossa nova into the wider political scene in Brazil in the 1960s, particularly in terms of how class and race are/were perceived within the genre, and its relation to anticommunist propaganda and connection to cold war efforts.
