Join us for the September Art & Advocacy Exhibit opening in the Diboll Gallery of the Tidewater Building downtown on Friday, September 8 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. This installation is the first of three in an exhibition series combining art, speakers, and topics relevant to public health.
This exhibit is titled "Feels Like 120 Degrees": Feels like 120° is a group exhibition exploring the themes of landscape and climate change through a public health lens. The title derives from the record breaking “feels like” temperature of 120° we in New Orleans have experienced this year. This heat has affected our collective quotidian lives, our relationships with one another and the landscape, and the content of our work. This exhibition is comprised of the work of local artists with specific interests in the Gulf South and our relationship to our environment, without forgetting our implicit hand in the making of the changes we all feel.
This exhibit will be up until September 23. Visit the Tidewater Diboll Gallery downtown starting at 4:00pm on Friday, September 8th to get a first look at the exhibit, and meet the artists. All pieces will be on sale. Many of the artists will also be in attendance for the Dean's Leaders & Lagniappe Lecture taking place on Wednesday, September 13th. Following the lecture, artists will be present for an informal mixer in the Diboll Gallery from 1:00 - 1:30pm. This is another opportunity to engage with the artists and their works.
