Join Kaqchikel learners and speakers at all levels to practice your language skills with some Kaqchikel-language poetry.

This month;s discussion will focus on Kaqchikel poetry and feature poet Negma Coy from San Juan Comalapa (Chixot). Negma will share a couple of recitations, talk about Kaqchikel poetry in general, and introduce her brand new book called Kikotem.‘

The discussion will by Tulane Latin American Studies graduate student Nico Barnum.

Join Vanderbilt CLAS and the Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University for a teacher workshop about incorporating topics of social justice and gender equality in the curriculum. In 2019, Amalia Rubin and Parker Benedict joined forces to create She Stands Up, a project that aims to spark meaningful conversations in high school classrooms about the power of women’s activism in the face of violence.

Join fellow students, teachers, and native speakers to practice your Kaqchikel language skills and deepen your understanding of Kaqchikel culture. This event is held on the last Thursday of each month for the duration of the Spring 2021 semester.

The April 29th session will focus on K’iche’ language learning with guest speaker Nela Petronila Tahay Tzay. It will be facilitated by Ignacio Carvajal.

We are pleased to invite everyone to the first conference of the new series Mesoamerican Dialogues. Dr. Edwin Román-Ramírez, director of Proyecto Arqueológico del Sur de Tikal, will be the first guest speaker, he will give a talk named “The Early Classic Period (250-550 CE) at Tikal: New data and interpretations recovered from groups 6C-XVI, 6D-III, 6D-XV, and 6D-XXI”.

This event will be held via Zoom and will be streamed on Facebook Live through the Mesoamerican Dialogues page.

The Venezuelan Studies Section of the Latin American Studies Association puts on Jornadas 2021- "Modalidad: Virtual/Presencial" in April of 2021. The conference provides a unique opportunity to discuss and debate the current issues in the nation and spark the creativity of our academics in their own research. The conference is held virtually via Zoom. Zoom links for individual sessions are available within the PDF linked below.

Conflict over the tenure of Haitian president Jovenel Moise represents a critical moment for Haitian democratic society. The discussion brings together a panel of homegrown experts, each with a distinct disciplinary perspective, to discuss the Moise power grab, the opposition reaction, and the future of democracy in Haiti.
