Children's and Young Adult Literature

Latin American Children’s Literature

The Latin American Resource Center is an active participant in promoting and engaging with Latin American children’s literature at both the local and national level. LARC also regularly offers a number of community based events each year which highlight the diversity of Latin America for children and their families.

In 2004, LARC inaugurated the bilingual collection of books and multimedia resources on Latin America in collaboration with The New Orleans Public Library called The Pebbles Center which is housed within The Children’s Resource Center. In 2014, we inaugurated a second branch at the Algiers Regional Branch of the New Orleans Public Library.

In 2012, Tulane’s Stone Center for Latin American Studies took over the coordination of the national Latin American children’s literature award, the Américas Award sponsored by the Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs in partnership with Vanderbilt University’s Center for Latin American & Caribbean and Latinx Studies. A full list of Américas Award winners and honorable mentions available for check-out through the Latin American Resource Center Lending Library may be viewed here.

Whether it’s in the classroom or in the community, LARC proudly brings the study of Latin America to New Orleans and the surrounding area.
