The Américas Award for Children's and Young Adult Literature was founded in 1993 to encourage and commend authors, illustrators and publishers who produce quality children’s and young adult books that portray Latin America, the Caribbean, and Latinx culture in the United States, and to provide teachers with recommendations for classroom use. The annual award is sponsored by the Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs, and coordinated by Vanderbilt's Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies (CLACX) and the Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University.
