Please join us for an educator workshop with Mexican Visual artist and environmentalist Carmen Parra On October 5, 2023, from 5-7pm at the Mexican Cultural Institute.    Parra is a multidisciplinary artist and environmentalist who was recently named Creadora Emerita, one of the highest national honors for a visual artist, by the Mexican government. She will be honored as the Godmother of this year's Butterflies in the Pass Monarch Festival in Pass Christian, MS.     In collaboration with Tulane University’s Stone Center for Latin American Studies and the Mexican Consulate in New Orleans, she will share her work with the community as well as make important interdisciplinary (science, visual art, technology, history, migratory studies) connections for local K-12 educators to utilize in their classrooms. Carmen will share her art, as well as her expertise in monarch migration. Visual historian Sarah Borealis, who has been working on a multimedia biography of Parra’s life and work, will moderate. Teachers of all disciplines are welcome.
This event is free and open to the public. A light dinner and non-alcoholic refreshments will be provided. Tequila-based cocktails will also be available compliments of the Mexican Cultural Center. Please RSVP here.
