SCLAS Alumna, Dr. Shearon Roberts, Named Vice President for the Southwest Education Council for Journalism and Mass Communication

Congratulations to Stone Center alumna, Dr. Shearon Roberts, who has been named the Vice President of the Southwest Education Council for Journalism and Mass Communication (SWECJMC). The SWECJMC is the regional organization for the national organization, Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). AEJMC is the leading academic association for journalism, media and mass communication professors, scholars and practitioners in the country.

Dr. Roberts will act as Vice President for one year and assume the office of President in 2019. Dr. Roberts is an Assistant Professor at Xavier University in the Department of Mass Communication. There, she oversees internship programs and trains students to become employable in media convergence in print, broadcast and online formats.

During her time at Tulane, Dr. Roberts focused her research on international, Latin American and Caribbean news coverage, Latin American and Caribbean foreign image and crisis news, particularly that in Haiti. Roberts‘€™ current research looks at the changes to the local media industry throughout the Gulf Coast. She is also conducting research that explores the development of media systems within the Caribbean, and historical media ties between Haiti and New Orleans.
