On July 11, 2019, the renowned Mexican economist Jaime Ros died in Mexico City at age 68. For those of us who were fortunate to be Jaime’s friends, we shall always remember his generosity and greatness as a human being. For those of us who were his intellectual partners, we shall always remember Jaime as a man of profound intelligence and insatiable curiosity. As an economist, Jaime was a very knowledgeable, rigorous and independent thinker. It didn’t matter to him that his unconventional ideas would destine him to the “museum of the great minorities,” as he used to say with the endearing irony that characterized him. His contributions to heterodox growth theory and the understanding of the Mexican economy were seminal and became classics. He shall be sorely missed.
