Carolina Caballero, of the Cuban and Caribbean Studies Institute at Tulane University, speaks to the political protests across Cuba this week. Caballero described the Cuban use of the hashtag “Patria y Vida,” or homeland and Life, as a call for inclusion. “They want a voice at the table and they don’t want to be excluded because they’re asking for more. Caballero says, “they want to thrive, not just survive, and that has become increasingly clear.”
