A Celebration of the Americas: Carnaval Latino 2010

October 9th, 2010 - October 10th, 2010

The Crescent City‘€™s annual salute to its Hispanic Heritage returns the weekend of October 9th through 10th when the Hispanic-American Musicians and Artists Cultural Association (H.A.M.A.C.A.) proudly presents Carnaval Latino. The showcase of Latin music, art and cuisine is produced by H.A.M.A.C.A., a non-profit, 501©(3) qualified, cultural organization that mentors Hispanic musicians and artists throughout the Gulf Coast region.

The weekend festival enjoys a reputation of offering both international stars and outstanding local talent for music lovers of all ages. One of the festival‘€™s founders, Romi Gonzalez, stresses that Carnaval is for the whole family: ‘€œFrom Parades and Salsa, Merengue and Latin Jazz to an amusement park atmosphere, Carnaval Latino has it all‘€. This year‘€™s International headliners include Omara Portuondo, the diva of The Buena Vista Social Club, the first Cuba bared group to visit New Orleans in one decade. Among the local and regional artists performing in this year‘€™s festival we have The Lonely Boys. Organizers have added an amusement park with rides and games for children of all ages. The festivity kicks-off with a Mardi Gras style grand parade rolling through the French Quarter on Saturday October 9th at 12:00 p.m. in commemoration of Columbus Day and Hispanic Heritage month.

Carnaval Latino is designed to bring internationally renowned music to New Orleans for the enchantment patrons of all ages. Music and dance will fill each day, spanning world genres such as Salsa, Merengue, Latin Jazz, Bachata, Latin Hip-Hop, Reggaeton, Latin Rock, and New Orleans music influenced by Latin sound. Whether there is Latin blood flowing through your veins or not, you don‘€™t want to miss this grand celebration of the Latin American spirit and culture.
