William N. Faulkner, a native of Dover, Massachusetts, graduated summa cum laude from Tulane in 2009, earning a B.S. in Linguistics and Latin American Studies. His honor’s thesis was entitled “Faith in Linguistics: The contributions of the Summer Institute of Linguistics.” Will also presented his paper “The Summer Institute of Linguistics and the Peruvian State: Implications for State-NGO Relationships in Latin America” at the 16th Annual Latin American Symposium at Birmingham-Southern College. During his junior year of high school, Will spent a year abroad in Zaragoza, Spain. He has traveled extensively throughout Latin America to locations such as Belize, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil and Argentina. Will completed an internship with the microfinance software provider Innova International in La Paz, Bolivia from July-August 2009. His master’s research focuses include international development, measuring welfare, and microfinance.
