Stone Center for Latin American Studies Announces the Summer 2017 Photo Contest!

This summer, the Stone Center is conducting a photography contest open to all participants in a Stone Center sponsored summer program or receiving SCLAS funds for individual research.

First, second and third place winners will be selected in each of the four categories (described below). One photograph will be selected as “Best of the Summer 2017” and the winner of this category will receive a $50 gift card from Amazon. All winners will receive a certificate.

Submissions (up to three photos per person) must be received by August 20, 2017, to be eligible for the competition. A panel of Stone Center faculty and staff will comprise the judging committee.

Participation Requirements:

  • You must be a participant in a SCLAS summer program or have received SCLAS funding to conduct research in Latin America and or the Caribbean.
  • Students and educators are welcome to enter submissions as long as they have completed a SCLAS summer program between May 2017 – August 2017.

Competition Details:

  • Participants may submit up to three photos from Latin America or the Caribbean.
  • Photos must be entered into one of the four categories: People, Place, Nature, and Events.
  • Photos must have been taken by the participant by whom they are submitted.
  • Photos from study abroad and research trips are all eligible.
  • Photos may be cropped, but are not allowed to be enhanced or manipulated in any other way.
  • Participants who have generously shared pictures for the Stone Center website in the past are welcome to submit any of these photos to the competition.
  • Participants may only place in one category.
  • Photos should be emailed to SCLASPC@gmail.com by August 20 (you can also post to social media using #SCLASphoto2017 and on Instagram tagging tusclas).

Email submissions should include the following information:

  • Participant’s Name
  • Program Affiliation
  • Status – Student (Undergraduate/Graduate), Faculty, K-12 Educator
  • Country location of each photo
  • Category selection (People, Place, Nature, Events)

By submitting photos to this competition, participants agree that their photos can be made available for use (credited to the participant, unless otherwise requested) on the Stone Center website. If you would like to submit photos, but do not want them used on the website, please note this in your submission email.
