Dr. Jorge Pérez has been at the forefront of Cuba‘€™s response to HIV since the beginning of the epidemic in the 1980s. He has held numerous leadership positions, such as director of the AIDS Sanatorium of Santiago de las Vegas from 1989 to 2000 and director of the Institute of Tropical Medicine Pedro Kourí from 2011 to 2017, where he currently serves as professor and senior researcher. As a result of his interactions as an infectious disease doctor with hundreds of people with HIV, Dr. Pérez wrote their life experiences in two compelling and acclaimed books that were published in Cuba with the support of his patients and their families. They are now reunited in one volume in English, The doctor and his patients talk about AIDS in Cuba.
