The Festival Brasileiro is an international festival held in New Orleans, Louisiana celebrating Brazilian music, arts, dance and culture. Co-founded by Brazilian Maestro Daniel Bortholossi and UNO conductor Dr. Caroline Carson in 2010 for the purpose of promoting awareness and enjoyment of the connections between New Orleans and Brazil, the festival has grown to substantial status with the skills of Robin Williams (Artist and Artistic Manager), Harmon Greenblatt (UNO Arts Admin), Steve Striffler (UNO Latin American Studies), Ivan Watkins (Artist), Cindy Scott (Nola Jazz scene) and Carolyn & Curtis Pierre (Casa Samba and Tulane University). The Festival contains elements of Brazilian classical and jazz music, capoeira, dance, art, food, and lectures on various topics (such as religion, history, etc.) Festival Brasileiro is international in scope and has invited Brazilian clinicians and performing ensembles. It also encourages local New Orleans involvement from those who have heritage and other connections from Brazil as well as the general public. The festival was very well-received in New Orleans with publicity and city-wide interest.
