The scholarship is for two years
of study: one semester of intensive English, one semester of half-time
coursework in the masters’ degree program with English classes
to bolster class effectiveness, two semesters of dedicated masters’
coursework. It includes travel to the US, health insurance, Tulane
tuition, and a fellowship to defray living expenses.
Requirements:
1. Applicant must be a native Guatemalan and fluent speaker of
a Mayan language
2. Applicant must earn a TOEFL score of 160 on the computerized
test or 480 on the paper test
3. B.A. degree or equivalent
How to apply for the scholarship:
Submit an application to the Maxwell Maya Fellowship. c/o Ajpub’

The application must include:
a. curriculum vita
b. certification of fluency in a Mayan language, from the
university granting the baccalaureate degree, or from the
Instituto Lingüístico of Universidad Rafael Landívar,
or from the Proyecto Lingüístico Francisco Marroquín
c. three letters of recommendation
d. an official copy of the TOEFL score
e. an essay explaining the applicant’s motivation in pursuing
a Masters’ degree in the field indicated, with emphasis on
the projected focus of study
Final date for receipt
of applications: January 31
The academic year at Tulane begins
in late August. The first semester runs from August to late Decembe.
The second semester begins in early January and ends in mid-May.
The process of selection of graduate students is generally completed
by mid-April. A student awarded a scholarship will be notified
as soon as possible. If an e-mail address is included in the curriculum
vitae, an unofficial notification can be made before the official
letter from the Graduate School arrives.

Beca
para Estudiantes Mayas
La Universidad de Tulane ofrece
a estudiantes mayas una beca para la maestría en la lingüística,
la antropología o en estudios latinoamericanos
La beca es para dos años
de estudio: un semestre de inglés intensivo, tres semestres
de clases apropriadas a la disciplina escogida, con refuerzo de
inglés en el segundo semestre.
Incluye el pasaje, seguros de salud,
la tuición en Tulane, y una ayuda monetaria para los gastos.
Requisitos:
1. Ser hablante nativo de un idioma Maya y de ciudidanía
guatemalteca
2. Ganar el examen TOEFL con un punteo de 160 en la versión
computerizada o de 480 en la versión manual.
3. Haber terminado la licenciatura.
Como solicitar la beca:

La solicitud debe incluir:

b. una constancia de parte de la universidad donde haya salido
de su fluidez en el idioma maya
c. tres cartas de recomendación
d. una copia oficial de su punteo en el TOEFL
e. un ensayo que explique su motivación para querer sacar
la maestría en su campo escogido y que indique el tema/los
temas que quiere enfocar en sus estudios
Fecha final para la
entrega de la solicitud completa: 31 de enero
El año escolar en Tulane
comienza a fines de agosto. El primer semestre corre de agosto
al 23 de diciembre. El segundo semestre comienza a prinicipios
de enero y termina a mediados de mayo.
El proceso de selección de estudiantes de pos-grado puede
llevarse hasta mediados de abril. El becado sería notificado
lo más pronto posible. Si se incluye un correo electrónico
en el curriculum, se podrá enviarle una notificación
no oficial. Notificación oficial viene de la Escuela de
Estudios de Pos-grado.
