A strong commitment to professional development has always been at the heart of all LARC's outreach activities. The professional development opportunites offered through the Resource Center are great ways for teachers to learn innovative strategies for introducing Latin America into the K12 curriculum. Each year the Resource Center host between 4-6 workshops designed around various Latin American themes. These professional development opportunities are designed to meet Louisiana and national content standards for the theme selected. The Resource Center's staff work very hard to ensure quality programs that will ultimately benefit the K12 classroom. For all workshops offered, participants receive a Certificate of Participation stating the content covered during the workshop and time-on-task. This certificate can be used to fulfill Continuing Learning Unit's for the state of Louisiana in accordance with the High Qualified Teacher definition of the No Child Left Behind Act. To read more about Louisiana's response to the No Child Left Behind Act, please visit the Louisiana Department of Education's website. In addition to traditional workshops, we also offer non-traditional professional development such as our Master Teacher Program, Latin American Studies Film Series, Summer Study Abroad, and other opportunities that perodically arise. The best way for teachers to stay in touch with what is happening at the Resource Center is to join our listserv. We only send out messages once a week, and they often contain valuable information to teachers on both a personal and professional level. If you have any suggestions
as to how to make LARC Professional Development further achieve our
goal of meeting state standards and providing quality programming, please
contact us. LARC staff are always
available to hear your comments. |
