The Pebbles Center Inauguration Ceremony

In an effort to expand community awareness about Latin America, the Stone Center is leading an initiative in the New Orleans Public Library that places a resource in one of the branches. This resource center, or Pebbles, will offer books and multimedia items, as well as community events related to Latin America.


Caribbean Soundscapes Conference
>>March 12-13, 2004

Popular music has often been singled out as a central defining characteristic of the Caribbean imaginary. This conference responded to the need to expand our scholarly paradigms in this area, recognizing intense regional transnationalization and change in the region in recent years. Speakers and participants addressed several key questions: what is the significance of the Caribbean as a specific locale for the production and circulation of popular music? What role does popular music play in the creation and continued performance of national identities throughout the circum-Caribbean and other zones, such as continental Latin America, northern North America, and Europe?

Second Annual Maya Symposium and Workshop 2003

The Tulane Maya Symposium was a great success again this year. The focus of this year's event was Classic Period (A.D. 250-900) in the Northern Maya Lowlands.

Working Meeting of Outreach Coordinators/Directors in Latin American Studies

The Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs (CLASP) and the Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University was proud to co-hosted a meeting for all Latin American National Resource Center Outreach Coordinators/Directors. This meeting took place at Tulane University on May 9-10, 2003.


Excellence in Latin American Studies Awards-Spring Awards Ceremony

This event recognized the four Best Paper prize winners, Best Graduate Faculty and Best Undergraduate Faculty as selected by the appropriate student constituencies. Also, the Stone Center recognized its best Teaching Assistant, and its outstanding graduate and undergraduate student leaders.
