In the years since Katrina, Spanish-speaking Latinos new to New Orleans face many challenges, ranging from everyday wage theft to systemic detention politics. Mid-City’s First Grace Methodist Church proposes a solution: teaching English. But language acquisition is just a first step toward creating lasting changes among Latino immigrant communities.
