Geography & Identity in the Brazilian Amazon

The Stone Center for Latin American Studies’, Latin American Resource Center (LARC) strives to provide the K-12 community with content-rich materials to explore current issues in Latin America. To fulfill this goal, we manage a Curriculum Writing Project. This project aligns curriculum development with film series and other film programming. The Latin American Environmental Media Festival is one project that brought local audiences together every other year to bring critical attention to major environmental challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean. The festival was held on campus at Tulane University and at other local venues in the New Orleans area. The biennial festival screened a competitive series of innovative works and was judged by a special Grand Jury. The Grand Jury selected the winner based on the work’s originality, film production quality, and ability to be used as an educational resource in the classroom.

In 2007, Iauaretê, Waterfall of the Jaguars, directed by Vincent Carelli, was selected as the Grand Jury Award winner.

This project is sponsored by a Title VI U.S. Department of Education National Resource Center grant. For more information please visit stonecenter.tulane.edu/LARC.
