Dr. Judith Maxwell Appointed to Journal Editorial Board

February 1st, 2009

Dr. Judith Maxwell, a long-standing member of the Tulane academic community and recognized expert in Mayan Linguistics, has recently been appointed to the editorial board of the Mayan Studies Journal. This new publication will be the first in its field to use an electronic format for delivery. The e-journal format is intended to improve accessibility of information and heighten awareness of current research within the Mayan studies field, particularly among international scholars.

As part of a diverse editorial board, Dr. Maxwell will serve as the journal’s specialist on Mayan linguistics. By combining experts of varied disciplines who will provide guidance and edit submitted works according to their personal specializations, the journal staff hopes to streamline the process of review and publication. Dr. Maxwell emphasized the importance of the e-journal format both as a thoroughfare to improved communication and exchange, and as an expedited route to print. She feels that both are necessary improvements within the Mayan Studies community. The inaugural issue is tentatively scheduled for distribution in June.

Maxwell encourages the Tulane community to remember the journal as both a new resource, and as a potential route to publication. Congratulations to Dr. Maxwell on her well-deserved appointment. We at the Stone Center look forward to learning from and using the new journal in our own research.
