“Everybody runnin’ to the Carnaval”: Calypso Music, the Caribbean and its New Orleans connection

A lecture and concert by Manuel Monestel

This event is free and open to the public.

Renowned Costa Rican Calypso musician and ethnographer Manuel Monestel will lecture on Calypso Music, its West Africa roots, and its connection to New Orleans’ culture. Loyola students from the Jazz Program will join Monestel and his band in a performance of traditional and contemporary Calypso songs.

This summer, join us for La hora del cuenta bilingual readings series at the Pebbles Centers of the New Orleans Public Libraries!

On the first and last Saturday of every month, we will read a bilingual book at the Algiers Regional Library and the Children’s Resource Center Library beginning on Saturday April 28 until Saturday, August 25. Children and parents welcome!
