Sixth Annual Celebración Latina: A family-oriented event that offers a great opportunity for New Orleanians to come together to celebrate the cultures of Latin America and New Orleans.

WHEN: Sunday, April 18, 2010 12 pm – 6 pm

BACKGROUND:
(New Orleans, LA) On Sunday, April 18, 2010 from 12:00 – 6:00 pm Tulane University‘€™s Stone Center for Latin American Studies will present the Fifth Annual Celebración Latina. This event, in partnership with Tulane University‘€™s Center for Public Service, The Hispanic Apostolate, the New Orleans Public Library, Telemundo, and 1540 KGLA Radio Tropical will be held on the corner of Magazine St and Napoleon Ave at Laurence Square from 12 pm until 6 pm. Celebración Latina is free and open to the public.

Join us at Celebración Latina for food, live music, and other entertainment all with a Latin flavor. Local Latin groups will be performing such as Ovi-G and the Froggies and Casa Samba.

The Pebbles Center and the New Orleans Public Library will host a children‘€™s area with art & crafts as well as other hands-on activities including a Brazilian drumming workshop with Casa Samba. The Hispanic Apostolate and the Center for Public Service will host a Community Partner tent which promotes non-profit and community organizations that work to make a difference in New Orleans.

Celebración Latina is a family-oriented event that offers a great opportunity for New Orleanians to come together to celebrate the cultures of Latin America and New Orleans.

The Stone Center recently agreed to co-sponsor Dr. Ananda Cohen-Aponte’s upcoming talk, “The Materiality of Insurgency in the Colonial Andres” which is scheduled for Thursday, October 29 at 5:00 PM via Zoom. The talk is part of the year-long “Representation and Resistance: Scholarship Centering Race in Western Art” lecture series organized by the Newcomb Art Department and co-sponsored by the Africana Studies Program and is also the 2020 Terry K. Simmons Lecture in Art History for this year.
