Post-Doc Reception Kicks Off a Year of Activities at the Stone Center

The Center for Interamerican Policy and Research and Stone Center communities came together to welcome our post-Doctoral fellows. The event took place on Monday, October 18th, on the courtyard outside of the Greenleaf Conference Room.

Dr Thomas Reese and Dr. Ludovico Feoli opened the reception by welcoming the guests and introducing the Post-Doc fellows currently working in the Stone Center and in CIPR. The incoming fellows, Zarai Toledo Orozco, Gustavo Diaz, Veronica Amelia Vazquez Lopez, Olivia Cosentino, Alejandro Kelly Hopfenblatt, and Fabio Resmini (CIPR’s visiting Pre-Doctoral fellow) shared their research interest as well as their current work. Their research spans several topics ranging from political parties and grassroots organizations to how informal groups participate in and influence policy. We also had a chance to hear from the returning Post-Doc fellows, Jared Abbott, Katherine McKiernan, Camilo Nieto-Matiz and Cameron Sells. Finally, Dr. Marcello A. Canuto, director of the Middle America Research Institute (MARI), introduced the Post-Doc fellows working with MARI. Veronica Vazquez Lopez and Laura Gilabert Salvador shared their work in archeology and Mayan society.

The event was attended by a mix of faculty and graduate students from the Stone Center. The community enjoyed the sunny day outside, mingling and getting to know each other in person after a year of virtual events. We‘€™re looking forward to a full calendar of activities as the Stone Center prepares to celebrate its 100-year anniversary.
