Elena Vanasse Torres [she/her/hers] is an MA student at the Roger Thayer Stone Center for Latin American Studies and a budding cultural worker in her community of Jayuya, central Puerto Rico. Prior to her time at Tulane, she received a bachelor‘€™s of science in biology & society with honors, and served as a Fulbright fellow in Belém do Pará, Brazil (2020). Elena is currently working within (post)coloniality and cultural studies to analyze themes within feminist deep ecology, territoriality, and race as they pertain to Latin America. She is particularly interested in mapping rural ‘‡’ urban cultural production and land and sea-based (re)territorialization between Brazil and the Antilles. In her spare time she keeps a garden and dances in a variety of modalities.
