Plátanos: Learning about Bananas

Plátanos: Learning about Bananas

This is a curriculum guide developed by a select group of teachers in 2005 to be used with the film, Banana Split, winner of LARC’s Biennial Latin American Environmental Media Festival. This curriculum guide was designed to be used for K-12 although most units are developed for high school. The guide addresses the economics, geographic, and social issues behind the trade of bananas throughout the Americas. Check out the film through our Lending Library. For an online preview of the film click here.

The Global Education Network with funding from the Canadian International Development Agency: Global Classroom Initiative has also developed a curriculum entitled Bananas Unpeeled!: The Hidden Costs of Banana Production and Trade. To download it, click here.
