The Department of Spanish and Portuguese presents a reading by Arthur Japin titled “The Winged Man: Santos Dumont, the Brazilian who Beat the Wright Brothers in the Quest for Flight.”

A Dutch novelist, Arthur Japin is one of the leading contemporary European writers. The author of ten novels, which have been translated into over twenty languages, he has received many awards, including the Libris Prize, the most prestigious prize in Dutch literature. In 2015, he published a novel De gevleugelde, translated into the Portuguese as O homem com asas, which is based on the story of Santos Dumont.
