Candelaria Garay Spoke on Social Policy Expansion in Latin America
November 23rd, 2016
This month we had the privilege of receiving Candelaria Garay at Tulane for a talk entitled “Social Policy Expansion in Latin America” based on her forthcoming book with Cambridge University Press. The talk included a glimpse at in depth case studies detailing the inclusion of “Outsiders” in government pensions, income transfers, and health services in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico. The comparative analysis shows a novel and compelling explanation for variation between countries and the magnitude of social policy expansion across governments of the Left and the Right during the 1990s and 2000s.
Candelaria Garay is an Associate Professor of Public Policy at the Kennedy School of Government. She received a Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
This event was sponsored by the Political Science Department and CIPR.
