Día de los Muertos is Approaching...

September 21st, 2016

Join LARC in learning about and celebrating Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead. We are hosting two educator workshops for people to learn about how to integrate this important tradition into the classroom and community programs for children to join in the celebrations. For those of you who can’t make it to our events, please check out the teaching resources we have compiled for teaching about Day of the Dead as a Pan-American tradition. A great resource for the classroom!

Celebrating the Dead in Peru
October 8, 2016
10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
100A Jones Hall, Tulane University, New Orleans, LA
The Latin American Resource Center has been exploring Day of the Dead across the Americas in a four year project that focuses on Mexico, Haiti, Guatemala, Peru, and Brazil. This year, we look at the tradition in Peru. This educator workshop introduces participants to the unique practices of Día de los Difuntos, or Day of the Deceased, which is celebrated in highland areas of Peru. Archaeologists Jason Nesbitt, Bebel Chavin and ethnomusicologist, Javier León will present the unique tradition as it is celebrated in Peru. The program will highlight both the similarities and differences with celebrations elsewhere while focusing on the music, dance, and food involved in Peru. Please join us as we explore a unique celebration of the dead in Peru. All educators who introduce Day of the Dead/día de los muertos in their classrooms will not want to miss this unique perspective to the tradition. Participants will receive lunch, teaching resources, and CEUs. Please pre-register, go to our website to register.
