Pebbles Center Celebrated its 10th Anniversary with Jorge Argueta

May 5th, 2014

The Pebbles Center, a collaboration of the Stone Center and the Children’s Resource Center, a branch of the New Orleans Public Library, celebrated its 10th anniversary on April 30th. April 30th was also Dia, a celebration of children and reading.

To celebrate, The Pebbles Center hosted a visit from children’s book author Jorge Argueta. Mr. Argueta is an award-winning author whose most recent books are about food and cooking. Mr. Argueta gave a special presentation at the Pebbles Center about one of his most recent books, Sopa de frijol, or bean soup. Mr. Argueta gave an interactive presentation about how to make bean soup and the importance of family and cooking. Everyone greatly enjoyed the presentation! While he was here, Mr. Argueta also visited two schools: Lusher Charter School and the International School of Louisiana, Bunche Campus. He gave presentations to over 200 students between the two schools. Each presentation was unique and focused on a different aspect of one of Mr. Argueta’s books. The students learned about Mr. Argueta’s El Salvadorean heritage, his love for cooking, and the importance of family. All in all it was a great way to celebrate the Pebbles Center’s 10th anniversary!
