Fiesta en la casa

September 27th, 2013

On Thursday, September 26, the Latin American Library hosted its 9th Annual Open House. Friends and fans of the Latin American Library enjoyed refreshments, browsed the library’s most recent acquisitions and shopped for gems in the library’s annual book sale.

Highlights of the event included exhibition of work by renown Columbian visual artist, Erika Diettes. Through photography, Diettes explores issues of memory, pain, absence and death, particularly in their relation to the Violence in Colombia. Diettes’ work has been exhibited throughout Colombia and the Western Hemisphere in museums like the Museums of Modern Art of Bogotá, Cali, Medellín and Barranquilla, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santiago de Chile, Centro Cultural Recoleta in Buenos Aires, De Santos Gallery and Houston Museum of Art. In addition, her work has been displayed in public spaces linked to the rememoration process of victims’ movements in Colombia. Several of Diettes’ photographs are part of the Latin American Library’s permanent collection.
