NERCHE Announces Recipient of the 2012 Ernest A. Lynton Award

September 20th, 2012

The New England Research Center for High Education (NERCHE) awarded this year’s Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement for Early Career Faculty to Dr. Jordan Karubian, Assistant Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Tulane.

The award recognizes Dr. Karubian’s environmental work in Northwest Ecuador where Karubian has developed a community-based program that engages with local residents in order to enhance environmental stewardship in the region. At Tulane, his Behavioral Ecology and Experimental Animal Behavior courses likewise combine research and community outreach. Students work directly with such organizations as the Gulf Restoration Network (GRN) and the Audubon Zoo. Dr. Karubian’s community engaged scholarship fulfills Tulane’s mission of “fostering community-building initiatives as well as scientific, cultural and social understanding that integrate with and strengthen learning and research.”
