Tulane University and Inter-American Dialogue Honor Enrique Iglesias

On May 15, Tulane University and the Inter-American Dialogue honored Enrique Iglesias, previous president of the Inter-American Development Bank, for his contributions to the social and economic advancement of Latin America and the Caribbean. The ceremony and reception took place after the conference, “Winning the War on Inequality and Poverty in Latin America,” jointly organized by the Inter-American Dialogue and Tulane University. World Bank President Robert Zoellick was one of many distinguished guests to pay tribute to Enrique Iglesias.

Enrique Iglesias held the IDB presidency from 1988 to 2005, before which he served as Foreign Minister for Uruguay. 1985-1988. He also held the position of President of the Central Bank of Uruguay from 1966 until 1988, during which he was the Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and participated in the 1981 UN Conference on New and Renewable Sources of Energy in Kenya as Secretary General. He has received many awards and prizes from Spain, Brazil, France, Japan and the U.S. and has published many books.
