Laura joined the Stone Center in 2012. As Program Manager, she manages the summer abroad programs, educational travel, special academic activities, and special event programming sponsored by the Stone Center and the Cuban & Caribbean Studies Institute. Since 2016 Laura has served as Secretary on the executive board for the Association of Academic Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean (AAPLAC).

Laura is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. She earned her B.A. in Linguistics and Romance Languages (Spanish and Portuguese) from the University of Georgia, followed by an M.A. in Spanish Linguistics. Her thesis, “Speech acts and politeness in Spanish and English magazine advertising,” focused on linguistic and cultural politeness in Hispanic advertising.

Before coming to the Stone Center, Laura was a graduate assistant at the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute at the University of Georgia where she coordinated special events and daily operations. She was a research assistant in the Department of Romance Languages where she did translation and transcription work in Spanish. She worked at UGA’s Institute on Human Development and Disability, and also spent a summer studying abroad in Salvador, Bahía, Brazil.
